1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how MOT Check ("we", "us", "our") approaches information when you use this website. This is a demonstration front-end project, and no data submitted through its forms is transmitted to a live backend or stored on a server. We have prepared this policy to a standard consistent with a live production service so that the project can be adapted with minimal changes if it is ever connected to a real backend.
2. Who We Are
MOT Check is presented as an independent, demonstration-only vehicle information platform. It is not a government service and is not affiliated with any official vehicle licensing or testing authority. References to "we" or "our" throughout this policy refer to the maintainers of this demonstration project.
3. Information We Collect
The MOT search box, contact form and any other input field on this site are UI demonstrations only. Any text you type into them — including registration plates, names, email addresses or messages — stays within your browser session and is not sent anywhere or saved once you close or refresh the page.
If this project were connected to a live backend, the categories of information that might reasonably be collected include: contact details submitted through a contact form (name, email address, message content); vehicle identifiers entered into a search tool (registration plate); and technical information automatically generated by your browser, such as device type, browser version and approximate location inferred from IP address.
4. How Information Would Be Used
In a live version of this service, information collected would typically be used to respond to enquiries submitted via the contact form, to return search results for a requested vehicle, to maintain and improve the reliability of the site, and to detect and prevent misuse such as automated scraping or abuse of the search tool. No information is currently used for any of these purposes because no backend exists.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Where applicable data protection law requires a stated legal basis for processing personal data, a live version of this service would rely on consent (for optional communications), performance of a request (for responding to enquiries you submit), and legitimate interests (for maintaining site security and preventing abuse). As no data is currently processed, no legal basis is presently engaged.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
This site does not set tracking cookies. Some interface state, such as your recent search list or checklist progress, may exist temporarily in your browser's memory for the current session only, and is discarded when the page is closed or refreshed. See our Cookie Policy for more detail on how this works.
7. Third-Party Links and Services
Pages on this site may link to external resources, such as font providers, or reference official government vehicle-checking services for informational purposes. Those third parties operate under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review separately before interacting with them. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the content or privacy practices of external sites.
8. Data Retention
Because this is a static, front-end demonstration site, no personal data is retained at all — any values typed into a form disappear the moment the page is closed or refreshed. If this project were extended into a live service, a defined retention schedule would be published here, setting out how long each category of data is kept and the criteria used to determine that period.
9. Data Security
Because no personal data is collected or transmitted by this demo site, there is no server-side storage to secure. If this project is adapted into a live service, appropriate technical and organisational safeguards — such as encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security review — should be implemented before collecting real user data.
10. Your Rights
Individuals in many jurisdictions have rights over their personal data, which typically include the right to access data held about them, the right to request correction of inaccurate data, the right to request deletion, the right to object to certain processing, and the right to data portability. As this demonstration site does not collect or store personal data, these rights are not currently engaged. A live version of this service would provide a clear mechanism for exercising these rights.
11. International Data Transfers
This demonstration site does not transfer data internationally because no data is collected. Were this project deployed as a live service with infrastructure or third-party providers located outside your home jurisdiction, this section would describe the safeguards used to protect any data transferred across borders.
12. Children's Privacy
This website is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, please contact us so that it can be addressed, though as noted above no submitted data is retained by this demonstration project in any case.
13. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" setting. Because this site does not track visitors or set analytics cookies, no distinction is currently made based on this signal; all visitors are treated the same regardless of their browser preferences.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the site or to applicable law. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date shown at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
15. Contact Us
If you have questions about this policy, please reach out via the contact form on the homepage. As this is a demonstration project, responses are provided for illustrative purposes and no live support channel is guaranteed.
